What CAI National 2026 Reminded Us About This Industry

CAI National is our favorite week of the year, and not because of the sessions or the expo floor. It is because of the people. Every year we spend the week reconnecting with old friends we may only see once a year, meeting new faces that turn into real conversations, and spending time with the partners and peers who make up this industry. This year was no different, and we came home with a lot to reflect on.

Chris Elmore on Customer Service in the Digital Age

One of the highlights of the week was watching Chris Elmore, Community Financials Director of Sales, take the stage on Friday morning to speak to a packed room on customer service in the digital age. The session covered how community association leaders can deliver exceptional service by adopting simple, efficient technology without losing the personal touch that makes this industry what it is. It was interactive, practical, and people walked out with things they could actually use.

The core of what Chris presented connects directly to something we think about constantly at Community Financials. Technology in this industry should make the human experience better, not replace it. Boards and homeowners still want to talk to a real person when something goes wrong and still want a question answered the same day. What good technology does is remove the friction that gets in the way of those interactions so that the people on both ends of the relationship can focus on what actually matters.

What the Week Reminded Us

Beyond Chris’s session, the conversations throughout the week reinforced a few things worth carrying back. Responsiveness is still the most talked about pain point across the industry, with boards and managers everywhere dealing with the same frustration of not getting timely answers from their accounting and management providers. The technology to solve that problem exists. The will to prioritize it is what varies.

Relationships still drive decisions in this industry more than almost anything else, and the people doing this work, the volunteer board members, the community managers, the support staff behind the scenes, are genuinely trying to do right by the communities they serve. A week like this one is a good reminder of that when it is easy to get lost in the problems.

Until Next Year

To everyone we connected with in Hollywood, thank you. To our partners Smartwebs, Columbia Bank, OSG, Axela, and AvidXchange, we are grateful for everything you bring to the table. And to anyone we did not get to meet yet, we would genuinely love to change that.
